Connie Fay Van Daley, 71, of Austin, Texas went to be with our Lord and Savior on Friday, June 21, 2024 surrounded by her loving family.
Connie Fay Urban was born in Giddings, Texas on January 5, 1953, to Roland and Clarice (Moerbe) Urban. Growing up with three girls in one bedroom, her sisters Jean Lytle and Linda Kolinek, shared almost everything. Her sisters and cousins kept busy with church activities through Redeemer Lutheran, field days at Concordia, and playing with Barbies. Connie saw The Beatles first TV performance with her cousin Cyrena, beginning her lifelong love of their music. Miss Universe contests on the front porch, utilizing a single sheer curtain and pair of high heels completed the designer wardrobe. It was quite uncanny that no matter who participated, Connie always crowned herself the winner!
Every December brought good behavior from Connie, her sisters, and cousins as Rumpliche, the dreaded mean German Santa, was to make his annual Christmas Eve appearance. After tapping his switch on the window to announce his arrival, Connie would have her prayer, in German, ready for Rumpliche. Santa would always ask if you had been good or bad and if he deemed you good, he would leave some candy as he left. For those that were bad, Santa might produce a rotten potato, or worse… Connie always got the candy for her good behavior.
Connie attended Reagan High School, class of 1971, before finding her way to Houston. As an active and adventurous young couple with Myron Mixon, she enjoyed slalom water skiing, trips to Taos, New Mexico, and many Longhorn football games. Shortly after marrying Myron in 1976, she gave birth to her daughter, Christine Laura Mixon, followed five years later by her son, Lance Christopher Mixon. Much of her time in Houston was spent with the Mixon family centered around her two new bundles of joy.
After moving back to Austin, she married Jay Van Daley in 1992. She loved being a homebody, always thinking of new inventions and never missing her daily soap operas. She was the weather alert queen sending notices to anyone in a storm’s path. Connie had a passion for antiques, garage sales and hunting for arrowheads. She loved to host holidays so the family could be together. Although Connie was active with many hobbies, but her focus was on raising her family. Countless dance recitals and baseball games brought her joy. All her children's friends loved her as did everyone that came to know her. Her pets brought her endless smiles throughout the years, as did the Home Shopping Network.
She is survived by husband Jay Van Daley of Austin; daughter Christine Mixon of Austin; son Lance Mixon of Blanco; Kasey and wife Shelby Van Daley of Georgetown; mother Clarice Urban of Fedor; sister Linda Kolinek and husband Darrell; and of Fedor. She also leaves behind countless loyal friends and extended family members.
Connie is preceded in death by her father, Roland Urban, and sister Jean Lytle.
