Mitchell Ray Shelton

Mitchell Ray "Mitch" Shelton, 73, died on September 14, 2026, in Bastrop, Texas.

Mitch was born on February 12, 1953, at Bergstrom Air Force Base in Austin, Texas, to Clell and Linda Shelton. He often described himself simply as an honest, hardworking, down-to-earth man. Those who knew him would say that he lived up to those words.

Mitch was a master toolmaker and expert prototype machinist. Meticulous by nature and gifted in math and geometry, he built a career around work that demanded patience, intelligence, and precision. His work included making components used in heart valves and orthopedic replacements. He took pride in doing things correctly, whether he was working professionally, repairing something at home, or helping someone he loved.

Family was at the center of Mitch's life. He adored his wife, Kathleen "Kathy" Elizabeth Hartwell, and worked tirelessly to build a home grounded in faith and love. He was a willing father in the truest sense, present by choice rather than obligation and generous with his time, patience, and love. He took great pride in his children and grandchildren. He expressed his love freely and backed it up by showing up, helping, checking in, sharing meals, and making sure the people around him knew they could depend on him.

Mitch was a man of faith, and his faith shaped the way he understood his life and served others. He gave his time and skills to various charitable efforts and looked for practical ways to help people. He was deeply grateful for his parents, his wife, his family, and the years they shared. He loved playing guitar and performing, fishing, traveling, cooking for family gatherings, and working on projects. His humor, generosity, loyalty, and steady presence will be remembered by everyone who loved him.

Mitch is survived by his beloved wife, Kathleen ("Kathy") Elizabeth Hartwell; his sons, Riley Hartwell Inks and Thomas Michael Inks; Riley's family, Li Qin Inks, Edward Charles Inks, and Hope Hartwell Inks; and Thomas's family, Jennifer Sear, Charlotte Ella Inks, and Emma Elizabeth Inks. He is also survived by many brothers and sisters-in-law, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clell and Linda Shelton.

Mitch was loved deeply, and he will be missed. His family will carry forward the honesty, hard work, faith, gratitude, and care for others that defined his life.
